St Mary's Church acquired a new gallery space in 1999. The Celebrating Talent exhibition was a large general art and craft exhibition held in this space. An open invitation was issued to anyone who lives or works in the city of Southampton to display their work and show off their talents.
The membership of other art and craft Societies and clubs in the City and local schools also participated. At least one piece of work by each person entering the exhibition was displayed and there were over 300 exhibits in total.
The exhibition opened on Saturday 5th August 2000, and ran until Holiday Monday (28th August.) Opening hours were 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday, 12 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. As St Mary's is a working church, the exhibition temporarily closed for weddings or funerals and church services.
