Yvonne Bell - Church Vestments, Icons, Christian Art

Christian Art

Yvonne Bell uses the inspiration of the traditional images of Christianity and modern interpretations to illustrate the Good News. Yvonne aims to produce the modern equivalent of the icons and frescos many people see as Christian art. She uses modern materials, often painting in acrylics on treated medium density fibreboard (MDF.) Commissions are welcomed for individual items or larger groups of work.

Lord of the Dance

Lord of the Dance is a popular modern hymn, which Yvonne felt drawn to paint. The words describe Christ as the Lord of Life with vigor and as a reflection of His life story. Yvonne's illustration brings out the meaning behind Sidney Carter's controversial line, 'It is hard to dance with the Devil on your back.' It does not suggest Jesus turned his back on the devil. It shows Christ carrying the burden of the Devil and weight of sin at his Crucifixion. The Devil is a metaphor for the Cross.

The painting is acrylic on stretched canvas 35 x 66 CM (14 x 26 inches.)
